"Discovering Meditation and Mindfulness through Technology"

In recent months, my perspective on meditation has transformed from a distant desire to an essential daily practice. This shift was made possible by the MUSE, a home neurofeedback device that has become my gateway to tranquility.

As someone constantly exploring self-soothing techniques, from weighted blankets to CBD, the MUSE stands out as a game-changer. While there may be other devices in this category, my experience with the MUSE has been so profound that I wholeheartedly recommend it.

But what sets the MUSE apart? It resembles a tiara with sensors that gently rest on your forehead, like sunglasses perched above your eyes. These sensors effectively measure your brain's electrical frequencies, categorizing them as active, neutral, or calm. The data is transmitted to your smartphone, providing real-time feedback.

One of the basic exercises involves a tropical rainstorm soundscape. The quieter you make your mind, the gentler the rain becomes, accompanied by chirping birds when you reach a state of calm focus. It records your brain activity throughout the practice, offering insights into your progress.

The brilliance of the MUSE lies in its ability to turn meditation into a delightful journey of self-discovery, even for those less inclined to tranquility. It taps into our inherent self-preoccupation, redirecting it positively. Instead of seeking external validation, we find ourselves engrossed in monitoring our mental states.

While this form of meditation may lack the spiritual depth of traditional practices, it harnesses our self-focus for personal growth. It encourages us to explore our inner world, enhance concentration, and escape the incessant chatter of our minds.

Meditation with the MUSE is a constructive alternative to scrolling through newsfeeds or social media. It allows you to celebrate achieving a calm state or focusing for extended periods, fostering self-improvement.

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned meditator, the MUSE has something to offer. It can be used with guided meditations or as a tool for documenting brain activity during your own meditation practice. For those who struggle with distraction or performance anxiety, the latter approach allows you to assess your progress without real-time feedback.

Researchers are also utilizing similar technology for brain studies, making it accessible for home-based experiments. This innovative approach to meditation and self-awareness has been my response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, both as a therapist and an individual seeking calm in turbulent times.

Through my MUSE journey, I've learned which techniques work best for me, whether it's finding focus during triggering moments or adapting to unconventional meditation conditions. It serves as a constant reminder to prioritize mindfulness in my daily life.

In a world filled with distractions, the MUSE helps us reclaim our mental space, one meditation session at a time.
