Coping with Isolation: Simple Pleasures and Practical Tips
Three weeks ago, our family entered isolation, a challenge amplified by my son’s schoolmate attending school despite his father feeling unwell. Fortunately, we emerged mostly sane, thanks to several small but significant practices.

1. The Joy of Bathing: My discovery of whipped cream soap transformed our bath routine. This indulgent product, though pricier than regular soap, provides a relaxing escape and private time, particularly beneficial for children.
2. Halablov's Activity Books: During isolation, we found solace in "Halblov" and "Halblovon" pamphlets from the charming "The Lighthouse" bookstore in Tel Aviv. These interactive books offer creative activities, fostering family bonding and encouraging imaginative play.
3. The Necessity of Earplugs: Sharing space for extended periods can be challenging. Earplugs have become my smallest yet effective tool for creating a personal quiet zone, enhancing cohabitation.
4. The Versatility of Pargoud: A curtain, or 'Pargoud', serves dual purposes. It visually divides living spaces, fostering respect for personal space within the family. Additionally, it provides a neutral backdrop for professional appearances in Zoom meetings.
5. Finding Solitude in Timing: Adapting the "Hawk Lady Model," I create private moments by waking up before the rest of the family or staying up later. These quiet periods are crucial for personal space.
6. Laughter as Medicine: We've turned to comedies and stand-up shows for entertainment. Michelle Wolf and Dave Chappelle's stand-up acts, along with movies like "Spy" and "The Other Guys," have brought much-needed laughter to our home.
7. Screen-Free Hours: Initiated by my youngest son, we dedicate specific hours daily to be screen-free. This practice has significantly enhanced our mental well-being.
8. The Art of Baking: Repeatedly baking successful recipes provides a sense of accomplishment and joy. It's a therapeutic activity that also enhances family bonding and skill-building.
9. Perfecting Home-Brewed Coffee: After experimenting, I've found that manually grinding fresh beans and preparing coffee with a macintah, topped with sweet cream, offers a cost-effective and satisfying coffee experience.
10. Sunrise Walks: On the tenth day of quarantine, symptom-free, my son and I began taking sunrise walks by the sea. These walks, coupled with homemade coffee and cookies, have become a cherished and rejuvenating routine.
